Oct. 7 Survivor Reportedly Dies by Suicide at the Grave of His Girlfriend Killed in the Nova Festival Attack
An Israeli survivor of the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack has reportedly died by suicide at the grave of his girlfriend, who was killed during the massacre at the Nova music festival, according to reports from Israel.
The man, identified as 30-year-old Bar Asraf, was reportedly found dead Saturday evening at the cemetery in Elkana, where his girlfriend, Liron Barda, was laid to rest. Emergency medical teams were called to the scene, but he was pronounced dead.
Barda, 26, was working as a bartender at the Nova Festival when the attack occurred. According to reports, she chose to remain at the site after the violence began, staying behind to help people who had been injured.
Her family previously described her as someone who was deeply committed to helping others. Her father, Avi, recalled speaking with her that morning and asking her to leave the area, but she reportedly told him that injured people needed help and that she could not leave them behind
Following Barda’s death, Asraf reportedly remained close to her family and frequently visited her parents while continuing to honor her memory. Reports about his death have renewed attention on the long-term psychological impact experienced by survivors and families affected by the Oct. 7 attack.
His death also comes amid broader concerns about the mental health struggles faced by survivors of the Nova Festival massacre. In the months following the attack, reports highlighted the severe emotional toll the tragedy had taken on many survivors, with some struggling to cope with trauma, grief and loss.
