Police make fifth arrest in Hilton Head July 4 shooting that injured eight

HILTON HEAD, S.C. (WCIV) — A fifth arrest has been made in connection to the shooting on Coligny Beach on Hilton Head Island that left eight people injured on July 4.
Jacob Malik Johnson, a 22-year-old from Beaufort was arrested on Wednesday and charged with breach of peace, aggravated in nature, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
The original report made on the night of the incident states that deputies reported to Coligny Beach after receiving multiple calls of gunshots in the area. Eight victims were located on scene, each suffering from non-fatal gunshot wounds.
Deputies previously arrested the following individuals for their involvement in the crime:
Jayden Hawes, 18, arrested on charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and aggravated breach of peace.


Marcello Royal, 17, arrested on charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, unlawful possession of a weapon and aggravated breach of peace.
Quazeir Davis, 17, arrested on charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, unlawful possession of a weapon and aggravated breach of peace.
Christopher Capers II, 17, arrested on the charge of accessory after the fact.

Through investigation it was determined that the shooting occurred after a fight between two individual groups took place on the public beach, leading to an altercation where shots were fired. The subjects then fled the scene and multiple firearms believed to be connected to the incident were recovered, according to deputies.
