THIS is the horrifying moment a wheelchair user is set ablaze after he is hit with a Molotov cocktail in a crazed, unprovoked attack.

Hero bystanders and first responders rushed to pull the man from the inferno in Oklahoma City, directly across the street from Police HQ.

The suspect, identified by police as 38-year-old Alexander Emery, has a 15-year criminal history that includes a prior conviction for arson.

Despicable footage shows the moment the fire bomb is launched at the victim, fully engulfing him in flames in the sickening broad daylight attack, on July 2.

The nightmare began around 8am when the victim can be seen wheeling across an intersection.

As he approached the curb, Emery walks past.

The victim was pushed into the flames

Footage shows the suspect changing direction upon seeing the man in a wheelchair and pulling an object from his pocket.

After rapidly approaching the victim, he pauses to light a Molotov cocktail.

Emery quickly launches the flaming cocktail directly at him, setting the wheelchair and the ground beneath on fire.

The man in the wheelchair desperately tries to roll from the flames but Emery pushes him, causing the wheelchair to tip backwards.

Police believe the man was targeted at random

The victim falls out from the chair and into the fire.

As the crime took place just meters from the police HQ, detectives in an unmarked car happened to be passing at that moment.

They immediately leapt from the vehicle, drawing their guns, after which Emery can be seen surrendering – sprawled on the curb.

One of the detectives ran over to the assailant to cuff him, while the other detective and a bystander quickly pulled the victim out of the flames.

The Oklahoma City Fire Department arrived and provided medical assistance to the victim, who miraculously only suffered minor injuries.

He is expected to make a full recovery, police said.

Emery was arrested and charged with several offenses, including arson, assault with intent to kill, and assault and battery with a deadly weapo.n

He was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center, where he is being held on a $200,000 bond, according to the jail’s records.

In a statement posted to Facebook, the Oklahoma City Police Department said: “A terrifying incident unfolded right across the street from OKCPD Headquarters at W. Main and N. Lee when a suspect threw a Molotov cocktail at a victim in a wheelchair.

“What happened next showed the absolute best of our community and our first responders.

“OKCPD detectives and a quick-thinking bystander immediately rushed into danger to help the victim and take the suspect into custody on the spot.

“Oklahoma City Fire Department was also quick to the scene to provide crucial medical aid.

“Thanks to this rapid, heroic response, the victim is expected to recover, and the suspect is behind bars.”

Police say Emery admitted to targeting the victim at random.
