Wife of man sucked out of Ryanair jet window reveals battle to save him at 20,000ft

A terrified wife has revealed how she clung to her husband’s legs as he was nearly sucked through a shattered window on a Ryanair flight.
Ljubiša Karović and Svetlana Grković were flying from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, when part of the aircraft’s engine broke off and smashed the window next to them, according to reports.
The force of the decompression at 20,000ft shortly after takeoff pulled Ljubiša, 61, through the window, but Svetlana managed to grab his legs.
He fell unconscious while his head was outside the Boeing 737, and she said she clung on for around five minutes.
She eventually pulled him back into the cabin with the help of other passengers.
Speaking to Serbian Nova outlet, she said: ‘It was as if a part of the engine broke off and hit the window next to which my husband Ljubiša was sitting.
‘The pressure pulled Ljubiša; luckily, he was strapped in, but half of his body was sticking out of the plane.
‘I immediately reacted and grabbed his legs. I thought: “If we die, we die together”. It was horrible.’

Oxygen masks were deployed throughout the plane, but in the chaos, Svetlana recalls a man and woman coming to her aid.
‘That man helped me a lot,’ she said, adding that she wanted to thank him now they had landed.
Amid the panic, she remembered seeing a mum sitting in the opposite row hugging her son so tightly she thought she would suffocate him.
Ljubiša suffered a serious hand injury and remains in hospital, where he is unable to speak following his ordeal.
The plane continued for another 30 minutes before making an emergency landing, according to Greek broadcaster ERT.
Footage shared by a Ryanair flight attendant showed a hole in one of the engines and a missing blade.
A passenger at the back said they did not realise what had happened at first.
They said: ‘We thought we were falling. We were wearing oxygen masks, we didn’t know if we would make it.’
They added that Ljubiša fainted several times and had blood on his face.
Ryanair said the aircraft ‘landed normally’ and that one passenger received medical assistance after landing in Thessaloniki.
Another flight was organised to take the other passengers to Memmingen at 9.53am.
A man was nearly sucked out of an Alaska Airlines flight when the door blew out on the Boeing 737 jet.
He was saved by his seatbelt, but the rapid depressurisation sucked away his iPhone and socks.
