A British court has convicted a 19-year-old Norwegian man of participating in a murder-for-hire plot after traveling to the United Kingdom with firearms, allegedly intending to carry out a contract killing on behalf of an international organized crime network with reported links to Iran.

The case has drawn attention from British counterterrorism authorities, who say it highlights how transnational criminal organizations recruit young people to carry out violent crimes across borders.

Jury Finds Teenager Guilty

On Wednesday, a jury at Central Criminal Court in London found Johannes Kongsnes Natland guilty of conspiracy to murder after more than 17 hours of deliberation.

Prosecutors said Natland traveled from Norway to Britain in March 2025 after agreeing to kill an unidentified individual in exchange for 25,000 euros (about $28,000).

However, only two days after arriving in the UK, he was arrested at a hotel in Huddersfield, northern England.

Police recovered two firearms and ammunition during the operation.

Authorities Say Plot Was Never Carried Out

Although investigators never identified the intended victim, Britain’s Metropolitan Police said officers uncovered substantial evidence indicating Natland understood he had been recruited to carry out a fatal shooting.

Counterterrorism investigators led the inquiry because of the alleged connections between the criminal network involved and the Iranian government.

Officials said the evidence demonstrated that Natland knowingly agreed to participate in a planned murder inside the United Kingdom.

Links to the Foxtrot Network

According to investigators, Natland was recruited by the Foxtrot Network, a Swedish organized crime group that British authorities say maintains links to Iran.

At the time of his arrest, Natland was reportedly working part-time at a pizza restaurant.

British authorities have previously identified the Foxtrot Network as being involved in violent criminal activity across Europe.

Last year, the UK government imposed sanctions on both the organization and its leader, citing alleged involvement in attacks targeting Jewish and Israeli interests in Europe on behalf of the Iranian regime.

The sanctions include freezing assets and prohibiting UK businesses from handling funds or economic resources connected to the organization.

Messages Presented as Evidence

During the trial, prosecutors introduced messages Natland allegedly exchanged with his girlfriend before and after traveling to Britain.

According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), he told her he was leaving on what he described as a “crazy mission.”

After collecting the weapons, prosecutors said he sent another message stating that “in the bag is bang” before sharing a selfie in which he was holding a firearm.

The image reportedly included the caption, “Soon it will happen.”

Specialist firearms officers arrested Natland in his hotel room on March 19, 2025, before the alleged plot could be carried out.

Other Suspects Already Prosecuted

Authorities said Natland had been recruited by a 17-year-old known by the alias “Generalen.”

A Norwegian court previously convicted the teenager of attempting to contribute to murder and sentenced him to 14 years in custody.

Officials also confirmed that another 16-year-old remains awaiting trial in Norway for his alleged role in the conspiracy.

Authorities Warn About Organized Crime Recruitment

Following the verdict, Frank Ferguson, head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, described the case as a carefully planned attempt to commit murder for financial gain.

He said the investigation demonstrates how organized crime groups increasingly operate across national borders while exploiting young people to carry out serious acts of violence.

British authorities continue to investigate the broader criminal network believed to be connected to the case.
