Long Island Teacher and Mother of Four Dies After Medical Emergency Sends SUV Into Family Pool

HEWLETT, New York — A Long Island family is mourning the sudden death of Allison Rahmani, a beloved teacher and mother of four whose SUV crashed into her family’s backyard swimming pool in a tragedy that authorities believe began with a medical emergency.

Rahmani, 40, died Friday after losing control of her 2023 GMC while in the driveway of a Hewlett home. The vehicle struck a tree and a parked, unoccupied car before plunging into an in-ground swimming pool.

Medical Emergency Believed to Have Preceded Crash

Law-enforcement sources told the New York Post that Rahmani appears to have suffered a medical episode before losing control of the SUV.

She was reportedly able to call 911 from inside the vehicle, giving rescuers an opportunity to respond.

Rahmani was removed from the SUV before officers arrived. Police performed life-saving measures before she was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died.

Authorities have ruled out foul play, although the investigation remains ongoing.

A Devoted Mother and Educator

Rahmani was a mother of four and worked as a math coordinator at the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway in Lawrence.

Friends and family remembered her as a dedicated educator who genuinely cared about her students.

Her sister described her as someone who could see potential in children when others saw difficulties, saying teaching was something Rahmani did because she loved it.

Her husband, Matthew Rahmani, also spoke about her devotion to their family during her funeral Sunday.

A Family Vacation That Never Happened

The tragedy came on the same day Allison and Matthew were scheduled to leave for a romantic trip to Paris.

Instead of boarding a plane together, Matthew was preparing to say goodbye to his wife at her funeral two days later.

During the service, he delivered an emotional tribute, recalling how Allison had supported him throughout their marriage and helped build their family together.

He also recited the traditional Jewish prayer “Eshet Chayil,” often known as the “Woman of Valor,” which is traditionally associated with Jewish weddings.

Community Mourns Sudden Loss

The sudden nature of Rahmani’s death has left relatives, friends, colleagues and students struggling to understand how an ordinary day could end in such tragedy.

She had recently celebrated her 40th birthday and was remembered by those close to her as energetic, loving and deeply committed to her family.

Her death has left four children without their mother and a community without an educator who had devoted herself to helping young people succeed.
