Nine people were hurt after a truck being pursued by police crashed into another vehicle in Northern California.
On the night of Sunday, July 19, police officers witnessed a truck driving “erratically” near Guerrero and 19th streets in San Francisco, KABC, local CBS station KPIX and local Fox station KTVU reported. When authorities attempted to stop the vehicle, they allege that the driver “failed to yield and continued driving with a willful and wanton disregard for the safety of the public,” the San Francisco Police Department confirmed to KABC.
Just after 8 p.m. local time, the truck collided with another vehicle at the intersection of South Van Ness Avenue and 14th Street, according to the outlets. The impact sent the second vehicle into a fire hydrant, causing a geyser to erupt, and into the side of a car dealership. Videos shared by the San Francisco Fire Department showed debris strewn across the road, including the top part of a truck cab.

“Motor Vehicle Accident at 14th St. and South Van Ness St.,” the agency said. “please Avoid the area for SFPD activity.”
When first responders arrived at the scene, they assessed the five people in the truck and four people in the other vehicle. In total, nine people were injured, including two people in critical condition, according to the reports.
“Eight of the patients were transported to the hospital by ambulance,” a spokesperson for the San Francisco Fire Department confirms to PEOPLE, “one patient declined medical transport and signed against medical advice.”
The San Francisco Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing. So far, the identities of the suspects and the potential charges have not been released, according to the outlets.
