A TEEN who dressed as a clown and whispered sinister messages into a Ring doorbell has been accused of the murder of a pensioner.

The 15-year-old boy was taken into custody after John Wesley Allen Sr, 76, was stabbed several times in Illinois.

Cops were called to a residential street in East St. Louis around 10pm on Monday, August 3, following reports of a body lying near or in the roadway.

The body was identified as that of Allen and a coroner ruled he had died from multiple stab wounds.

The 15-year-old suspect was taken into custody by the Illinois State Police on Tuesday afternoon in connection with Allen’s death.

It has now been revealed the teenager was spotted earlier on Monday in the area night dressed as a clown.

Ring doorbell footage posted to social media, with a timestamp around 9pm – just an hour before the cops were called – shows a person dressed as a clown at a home in East St. Louis.

The clown leaves the audio message: “I’ve been looking for you.”

Lee Palmer told First Alert 4 that his mother was at the home alone when the clown appeared on their front porch.

He said the person lingered on the property for several minutes and even went behind the house.

Palmer said he was worried the clown was going to “kill everyone in the house.”

He said: “I couldn’t believe it.

“He was dressed in the clown outfit

“That was kind of spooky for her.”

Palmer also worried the teen was been armed.

Illinois State Police say they arrested a 15-year-old suspect who they believe to have been seen on surveillance video wearing a clown costume.

They have not released details about what led to the killing or what brought the teen to the neighbourhood.

They said: “Video footage of the suspect dressed in a clown costume has been circulating and ISP is currently working to collect all relevant video.”

Investigators are urging anyone with information or surveillance video of the clown-clad suspect to contact them.

It comes as a blood-covered clown lied to cops after he battered a male model to death at a party.

Bhekisani Matabiswana, 27, punched, kicked and stamped on 37-year-old Luke Harden until he died.

He told cops at the scene he had discovered Luke suffering a cardiac arrest on a road close to the party in Lancashire.
