Lauren Boebert’s Son Faces Five Felony Charges After 43-Second Video Becomes Part of Colorado Child Exploitation Investigation

A 43-second video allegedly recorded more than two years ago has now placed Tyler Boebert, the eldest son of Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert, at the center of a criminal case involving child sexual exploitation allegations.
Tyler, now 21, was arrested on Aug. 9 and booked into the Garfield County Jail in Colorado. He faces five felony charges connected to a video authorities have classified as child sexual abuse material, or CSAM.
The allegations against him emerged from a much larger investigation described in a 49-page criminal affidavit. That document details accusations involving multiple young men, underage girls, social media posts and, in one case unrelated to Tyler, alleged threats used to pressure an underage couple into producing additional intimate material.
Tyler’s case centers on a video allegedly made on Feb. 1, 2024.
At the time, he was 18 years old. His then-girlfriend was 17 and approximately two weeks away from turning 18. Authorities allege Tyler filmed the 43-second recording involving the pair.
Unlike some of the other material described in the broader investigation, the video involving Tyler was not allegedly uploaded to social media or publicly posted online.
But according to the affidavit, a copy eventually reached the woman’s former boyfriend.
That development helped bring the video to police attention.
A Report Made One Day After the Video
The woman involved went to police on Feb. 2, 2024, one day after the recording was allegedly created.
Her face could not be seen in the footage, according to the affidavit, but investigators said she could be identified through details including her hair and an injury she had sustained in a car accident.
The affidavit also alleges that when she initially spoke with authorities, she did not tell police that she had sent the video to other people.
Investigators further stated that she was informed Tyler could face consequences if she chose to make a formal complaint. According to the affidavit, she initially indicated that she did not want him to get in trouble.
More than two years later, the investigation resulted in Tyler’s arrest.
Authorities charged him with child sexual exploitation to induce or entice; sexual exploitation of a child, possession with intent; sexual exploitation of a child involving video; and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
He was released later on Aug. 9 after posting a $10,000 surety bond.
Tyler has not yet entered a plea in the case.

A Much Wider Investigation
Although Tyler Boebert’s family connection has drawn national attention to the case, the affidavit describes allegations extending far beyond him.
The document refers to other individuals whose names were redacted.
Some are accused of posting sexually explicit material involving minors online. Another individual is accused of using intimate material as leverage against an underage couple, allegedly threatening to distribute existing photos and videos unless the pair created more content.
It was not immediately clear from the affidavit whether those other individuals were also arrested during the same period as Tyler.
The distinction between those accusations and the allegations against Tyler is significant.
Authorities do not allege that Tyler posted his video publicly. His charges arise from the alleged creation and possession of the recording involving his then-17-year-old girlfriend and related conduct described by investigators.
The latest criminal proceedings add another legal matter to an already complicated period for Tyler.

Previous Cases Are Still Awaiting Sentencing
Tyler is also awaiting sentencing in two separate cases.
One involves a child abuse case filed in Weld County in 2025. Another stems from a 2024 incident in Garfield County that resulted in multiple charges, including property theft and trespassing.
Sentencing in both of those cases is expected in early September.
Before then, however, Tyler is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 19 for a hearing connected to the newest child exploitation case.
That means his latest arrest comes at a moment when the outcomes of his earlier cases have not yet been finalized.
Tyler is the oldest of Lauren Boebert’s four children.
His mother, a Republican member of Congress from Colorado, issued a brief statement following news of the arrest.
She said she loves her son, described the allegations as something the family takes seriously and said they were praying for everyone affected during what she characterized as a difficult period.

The Arrest Arrives During Lauren Boebert’s Reelection Campaign
The case also arrives during a politically significant period for Rep. Boebert.
She is currently campaigning for reelection in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District. She moved into that district for the 2024 election after previously representing the state’s 3rd Congressional District.
Her political career had already included an exceptionally narrow reelection victory in 2022, when she won her race in the 3rd District by only 546 votes.
Now, as she campaigns for another term, her eldest son is preparing for a new court appearance while simultaneously approaching sentencing in two unrelated criminal matters.
For Tyler, the most immediate date is Aug. 19.
That hearing will mark the next formal step in a case that traces back to a video allegedly recorded on Feb. 1, 2024 — when he was 18 and his girlfriend was 17.
What began as a 43-second private recording has since become part of a much larger Colorado investigation involving allegations of child sexual exploitation, online distribution and extortion by multiple individuals.
Tyler has not entered a plea to the five felony charges against him, and the allegations will now move through the court system.
For the Boebert family, meanwhile, the case brings another public legal battle at a time when Tyler’s previous cases remain unresolved and his mother is seeking to remain in Congress.
