Devastated dad offers heartbreaking update after his four children were found dead in apartment with mom and grandma

THE father of four children found dead alongside their mother and grandmother in an apartment has shared an update as he tries to honor the siblings’ memory.

Brady Harmon was expecting to see his children on July 1 after years of fighting a custody battle with their mother, but he has since had to spread their ashes after they were seemingly poisoned by their grandmother.

Brady Harmon’s four children were found dead in an apartment in Mechanicville, New York alongside their mother and grandmother

Harmon flew to New York from Utah to bring his children’s ashes to Utah and shared information about the condition of their home

Police said they found evidence children’s grandmother Amy Steadman was involved in their deaths

Mechanicville police conducted a welfare check at the apartment after a neighbor reported not seeing the family for nearly two weeks

Harmon’s children, Harper, 13, Hudson, 11, and 10-year-old twins Gavin and Gracelynn were found dead inside an apartment on June 23 after police conducted a welfare check following a call from a neighbor who noticed “the smell of death.”

Police in Mechanicville, New York, a town north of Albany, found 64-year-old Amy Steadman, the children’s grandmother, and 44-year-old Sarah Myers, their mother, dead inside the home.

Myers and the kids lived in a separate apartment in the same complex, but were found in Steadman’s residence police said.

The neighbor said she hadn’t heard from the family in nearly two weeks, which prompted her to call the police.

Harmon, who lives in Utah, said police showed up at his home to tell him his kids were found dead over 2,200 miles away.

He revealed to the Times Union he planned to bring his children’s remains to Utah, saying between tears, “I want them as far away as possible from their mother.”

Harmon has since spread their ashes on top of a mountain in Utah, he said in an interview with ABC affiliate WRGB published on Wednesday.

He said he was joined by his dad and that they spread the ashes in the same spot where their grandfather’s ashes were spread.

“You could see the beauty of everything, and you could see the world on that,” he said of the mountain view between tears.

“As soon as the last ash hit the ground, it started raining,” he said, adding he thought it may have been a sign from his kids.

Harmon flew to New York to bring their ashes back to Utah and spoke with Mechanicville police about the investigation.

He also went to their home, gathering pictures and clothes as “something to hold onto” and honor their memory.

Children’s bicycles and a teddy bear were pictured at the apartment behind police tape

The four children were identified as Harper, 13, Hudson, 11, and 10-year-old twins Gavin and Gracelynn

Harmon had been granted custody of the kids for a few months after a long custody battle with the children’s mother Sarah Myers, who was also found dead

Police said a handwritten note recovered at the scene suggest Steadman was responsible for the family’s deaths

“The conditions of the home were, the nicest word I could think of is deplorable,” he said, adding that the home smelled like a kitty litter box no matter which room you walked into.

He got choked up when talking about seeing the couch his kids would sit on when he would talk to them on the phone, saying it was “kind of an eye opener.”

“The state of their rooms, it’s just disgusting,” he said.

Harmon previously revealed that Myers would only allow him to speak occasionally to his children over FaceTime.

He felt there was a lack of love and admiration in the house, saying normally when you’re proud of a picture, you put your kids’ names on it and hang it on the fridge, but there was nothing of the sort.

Harmon said all he can do now is fight to prevent something like this from happening to another family.

“We are going to fight for changes,” he told WRGB.

“I cannot in good conscience allow another parent to go through the same thing. There has to be some changes.”

“I just wish it could have been prevented and you know, something more could have been done.”

He told the Times Union that he hadn’t seen his kids since 2019, but was going to see them on July 1 thanks to a move in their custody battle.

“I went from I’m seeing my kids to I’ll never see my kids again,” he said.

Mechanicville Police Chief Bill Rabbitt said that authorities uncovered a handwritten note and other evidence that strongly suggested the grandmother “was involved in the deaths.”

Rabbitt said the evidence pointed toward “intentional poisoning,” and officials found numerous prescription and over-the-counter medications inside of the home.

He also revealed one of the children suffered from “fatal sharp force injuries.”

The Mechanicville Police Department did not immediately respond to The U.S. Sun’s request for any updates in the case.
