Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘Wore Out’ Their Hollywood Welcome as Star Power Starts to Fade

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived in Hollywood with royal titles, A-list connections and multimillion-dollar deals.

Six years later, insiders say the welcome mat has been rolled up.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are preparing to spend more time in the UK after their Hollywood ambitions reportedly failed to deliver the success many expected when they left royal life in 2020.

The couple initially landed in California with serious industry muscle behind them.

They signed a reported $100 million Netflix deal, struck a multimillion-dollar agreement with Spotify and launched their Archewell production company.

But their entertainment empire has struggled to gain momentum.

Their latest project, the Girl Scout documentary “Cookie Queens,” has reportedly pulled in only $564,847 after two weeks in theaters — even opening behind “CatVideoFest 2026,” a compilation of internet cat videos.

One insider described the situation bluntly.

“They have squandered all chances of making money here,” the source told Page Six.

Another Hollywood insider claimed Harry and Meghan never managed to figure out exactly who they wanted to be in the entertainment business.

“There was a thirst for them to sort of find a way to maintain their royal lifestyle,” the source said, adding that “the goalposts kept moving.”

Meghan, 45, was described by the insider as the more eager of the pair to prove herself in Hollywood.

Harry, 41, meanwhile, allegedly never seemed particularly interested in becoming a traditional Hollywood producer.

“He’s not a producer. He doesn’t care about producing things,” the source claimed.

The couple’s Hollywood relationships have also reportedly cooled.

After initially becoming friendly with major figures including Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry, sources now claim those relationships are no longer as close.

Perry famously helped the Sussexes when they first arrived in California, reportedly providing them with his mansion, private jet and security team.

Their business partnerships have also taken several hits.

Spotify and the Sussexes “mutually agreed to part ways” in 2023 after Meghan’s “Archetypes” podcast ran for just one season.

Netflix has also ended its partnership with Meghan after several projects, including her cooking series “With Love, Meghan,” failed to become the expected blockbuster.

Her lifestyle brand, As Ever, has faced its own struggles.

Meanwhile, Meghan’s relationship with Hollywood powerhouse WME has reportedly become complicated.

Although the agency previously denied dropping her and said it continued to represent Meghan and Archewell, sources have claimed that top WME boss Ari Emanuel stopped working directly with the duchess.

One insider previously described Meghan as “too demanding” and “difficult to work with,” claims that have not been established as fact.

Now, the Sussexes appear ready to spend considerably more time back across the Atlantic.

Page Six reported that Harry and Meghan will return to the UK for an extended period, with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, expected to attend school there.

King Charles III is reportedly a major reason behind the move, with sources saying he wants to spend more time with his son and grandchildren.

The couple’s return does not mean they are becoming working royals again.

They will remain private citizens and non-working members of the royal family, according to sources cited by Page Six.

Their relationship with Prince William, however, remains deeply strained.

Sources say the brothers have yet to repair their relationship, despite Harry and Meghan recently spending time with King Charles during a July visit to Britain.

For Harry and Meghan, the move could represent more than a family decision.

It may also give the couple a chance to step away from an increasingly difficult Hollywood spotlight.

After years of attempting to establish themselves as entertainment power players, the Sussexes now face an uncomfortable reality: royal fame can open Hollywood doors — but it cannot guarantee what happens after those doors open.

And according to some insiders, Hollywood may already have had enough.

“Good riddance,” one showbiz source said of their reported departure.

For a couple who arrived in California determined to build a new life on their own terms, it is a brutal Hollywood plot twist.
