‘My Life With the Walter Boys’ Writer-Producer Jesikah Suggs Dies at 32 After Cancer Battle

LOS ANGELES — Jesikah Suggs, the talented writer and producer who helped shape Netflix’s hit teen drama My Life With the Walter Boys, has died at the age of 32.

Suggs died at her home in Studio City, California, on August 18, following an eight-year battle with breast cancer. Her family confirmed her death this week, according to reports.

A Career Cut Far Too Short

Suggs was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was just 24 years old. Despite her illness, she continued building a career in television and remained committed to her writing.

She became particularly well known for her work on My Life With the Walter Boys, the popular Netflix drama starring Nikki Rodriguez, Noah LaLonde and Ashby Gentry.

Suggs initially worked as a story editor during the show’s first season before becoming a co-producer for Seasons 2 and 3. She also wrote episodes of the series and had already begun working on material for the show’s fourth season before her death.

Her other television credits included Parenthood, As We See It and It’s Not Like That.

She Refused to Let Cancer Define Her

Suggs’ sister, Liz Suggs, remembered her as someone who continued showing up for her work despite years of difficult treatment.

According to Liz, Suggs’ cancer metastasized two years after her initial diagnosis, forcing her to undergo additional treatments.

Yet she continued working and mentoring other writers.

Liz said her sister was determined not to allow cancer to define her life and remained grateful for the medical professionals who cared for her throughout her illness.

Sharing Her Journey

Suggs had occasionally opened up about her cancer journey on social media.

In 2018, she shared an emotional message while undergoing chemotherapy, expressing gratitude for the friends and family members who surrounded her with support during treatment.

Her posts offered glimpses into the difficult reality of fighting cancer at such a young age while trying to maintain a career and normal life.

Remembered by Family and Colleagues

Suggs was a graduate of Baylor University and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in television.

She is survived by her husband, actor Dustin Ingram, along with her mother, siblings, nieces and nephew. Her father, Jim Suggs, died before her.

A memorial service was held in Los Angeles on August 22, with another service scheduled in Grapevine, Texas, on August 29.
