Wisconsin High School Quarterback Adam Massman Dies at 17 After Game Injury

ALMA CENTER, Wis. — A Wisconsin high school community is mourning the loss of Adam Massman, a 17-year-old senior and quarterback who died after being injured during a football game.

Massman was injured during Lincoln Junior/Senior High School’s season-opening game against Turtle Lake on Aug. 20. Emergency medical personnel treated him at the field before he was taken to a hospital. He died two days later.

Remembered as a Multi-Sport Athlete

Massman was preparing to begin his senior year at Alma Center Lincoln High School. He played several sports, including football, basketball and baseball, and was also involved in other school and community activities.

On the football team, he played both quarterback and defensive back. During the previous season, he recorded more than 1,100 total yards, including 10 passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns.

His family also remembered him as hardworking, energetic and devoted to the activities he enjoyed, including sports, working with animals and participating in cattle shows.

School Community Mourns

The school district opened the high school to students, families and friends following Massman’s death and made counseling services available.

His teammates also created a memorial at his parking spot, including the initials “LLA,” meaning “Long Live Adam,” along with images connected to his family and interests.

The school district said Massman’s family has deep connections to the community, making the loss particularly difficult for students and staff.

Details of the Injury Remain Private

Officials have not released specific medical details about the injury.

Massman’s mother has said he suffered a serious collision during the game, but school officials have emphasized that they do not have permission to provide further information.

The circumstances have nevertheless left the community grieving the loss of a student who was just beginning his final year of high school.

A Community Comes Together

Massman’s funeral service is scheduled to take place at the high school on Aug. 29.

His family has expressed gratitude for the support they have received and encouraged friends and community members to continue sharing memories of Adam.

For the Alma Center Lincoln community, the tragedy has brought an entire school together to remember a young athlete, classmate and friend whose life ended far too soon.
