Missing Florida Teen Sophia Cover Heads Home After Being Found 1,200 Miles Away

FLORIDA — The search for 16-year-old Sophia Cover has ended with an emotional reunion, as the missing Florida teenager was seen flying home with her father after being located more than 1,200 miles away in New Jersey.

Sophia disappeared from her family’s Golden Gate Estates home in Florida shortly after midnight on July 31. Home-security footage captured her leaving the residence, prompting a widespread search involving local, state and federal authorities.

Sophia Found Safe in New Jersey

The teenager was located on August 11 at a friend’s home in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, according to her father, Rick Cover.

The FBI found Sophia after investigators had spent 11 days trying to determine where she had gone. Her discovery brought an end to an anxious nationwide search that had generated widespread attention online.

Her father previously thanked investigators and members of the public who shared Sophia’s photograph, distributed flyers and provided information during the search.

Father Finally Brings Daughter Home

In an emotional Facebook post Wednesday, Rick Cover shared a video showing himself and Sophia smiling together while traveling back to Florida.

He described being able to sit beside his daughter on the flight home as something he would never take for granted.

After days of uncertainty, the father said his immediate priority was simply being with Sophia, bringing her home and reconnecting her with her brothers and sisters.

Major Questions Remain

Although Sophia has been found safely, her family still does not have all the answers about what happened during the 11 days she was missing.

It remains unclear exactly how she traveled from Florida to New Jersey, why she left home and what circumstances led her to stay with friends there.

Rick Cover acknowledged those unanswered questions in his latest update, saying he plans to explain more about Sophia’s journey once the family has had time to process what happened.

For now, however, the family is focusing on the most important development: Sophia is alive, safe and finally on her way home.

The case remains an active matter for authorities as investigators and the family work to understand the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
