Three Teenagers Die in Tragic Brooklyn Highway Crash

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Three teenagers were killed and four other people were injured after a devastating crash on Brooklyn’s Belt Parkway late Tuesday night.

The victims were identified as Huzayfah Makharesh, 18, Konstantin Gerantidi, 17, and Abdul Rehman, 16. All three were traveling in a Cadillac Escalade that crashed near the Belt Parkway and 65th Street.

A Sudden Collision

Police said the Escalade was traveling eastbound when it moved toward another lane while attempting to pass a slower vehicle. The driver then encountered another slower vehicle and began to slow down.

A Honda traveling behind the Escalade was unable to stop in time and struck the SUV from behind. Both vehicles then hit a guardrail, causing the Escalade to spin and overturn.

Three teenagers in the Escalade were critically injured and later died at nearby hospitals.

Two other teenagers who were riding in the same vehicle survived. Investigators said those two were wearing seat belts.

Four Others Injured

The two women inside the Honda were also taken to hospitals following the crash. Their injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.

The four survivors were expected to recover, according to reports.

Investigation Into the Crash

Police are examining speed, lane changes and other factors as they reconstruct what happened.

According to investigators, the 18-year-old driver had previously received several traffic summonses, including citations for speeding and an unsafe lane change. His license had also previously been temporarily suspended after traffic violations.

A toxicology test has been ordered as part of the investigation, but authorities have not announced that drugs or alcohol played a role.

No arrests had been announced in connection with the crash.

Families Left Grieving

The three teenagers were friends and had reportedly been returning home after spending the evening together.

Rehman’s uncle told reporters that the family had been expecting him home shortly before the crash. He described the 16-year-old as a young man with dreams for his future.

For three families, an ordinary night out ended in unimaginable loss.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the precise circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
