90-Year-Old Woman Finds a Perfect Companion in a Blind Chihuahua

MISSOURI — Donna James, 90, was looking for a small dog who could keep her company and enjoy plenty of time by her side. She found exactly what she was looking for in Mocha, a blind Chihuahua from a Missouri animal rescue.

James was introduced to Mocha through Pawportunities, a rescue organization that helps animals find new homes. The meeting quickly convinced everyone involved that the two were a natural match.

Looking for a Loving Companion

James’ daughter contacted the rescue after her mother decided she wanted another dog.

The family was specifically looking for a small companion who enjoyed cuddling and could comfortably fit into James’ daily routine.

Mocha, meanwhile, had experienced a major change in her own life after suddenly losing her eyesight. The Chihuahua had become especially dependent on human companionship and enjoyed staying close to people.

Those qualities made the pairing seem almost too perfect.

An Instant Connection

Pawportunities executive director Carrie Siems helped arrange a meeting between James and Mocha.

When the two met, they quickly became comfortable with one another. Mocha stayed close to James, while James appeared delighted to have found a dog who enjoyed the same kind of companionship she had been hoping for.

The rescue later shared the heartwarming meeting online, where the pair attracted plenty of attention.

Family Will Help Care for Mocha

Because of James’ age, the rescue wanted to make sure Mocha would continue to have a safe and loving home if James eventually became unable to care for her.

Her family reassured the organization that they would step in whenever necessary.

The plan also includes making Mocha part of the family’s wider daily routine, allowing her to spend time with other relatives rather than becoming dependent on only one person.

A Special Adoption

The story has become a reminder that adopting a pet is not always about finding the youngest or healthiest animal.

Sometimes, the right match comes from finding two individuals who simply fit together.

For James, Mocha provides companionship and affection. For Mocha, her new home offers security, attention and a person who genuinely enjoys having her close.
