Rush Hour 4

Rating: 3.5/5 Do You Understand The Words That Are Coming Out Of My Mouth?

It’s been decades since Lee and Carter busted heads and cracked jokes. Rush Hour 4 brings Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker back together for one last chaotic ride, and while they’ve both slowed down a little, the chemistry is still electric.

The film finds Inspector Lee (Chan) as a high-ranking diplomat, tired of field work and ready for retirement. James Carter (Tucker) is… well, Carter is Carter, still annoying his superiors and running the same schemes. When a Chinese artifact is stolen from a London museum and Lee’s daughter is kidnapped in the process, the duo must reunite for a global chase that takes them from the streets of London to the casinos of Macau.

Chan’s action scenes are scaled back (he’s older, and it shows), but the choreography is cleverly designed to work around his limitations. Tucker’s comedy is as loud as ever, and the “fish out of water” jokes (Carter in London, Carter in China) land more often than they miss. The emotional core—Lee’s relationship with his daughter—gives the film a weight the previous entries lacked.

The Verdict: A fun, nostalgic send-off for two of comedy’s greatest duos. It’s not as sharp as the original, but it’s a hell of a lot better than 3.

Final Thought: He’s not gonna be in Section 8, he’s gonna be in Section… Ate
