Clancy’s trial ended in a mistrial after the jury did not reach a unanimous verdict

A member of the jury during Lindsay Clancy’s trial claimed the holdout juror reenacted the fatal strangulations with an exercise band Clancy used.

Nick Dargie, one of three male jurors, spoke to Good Morning America and said he was “shocked” when the lone holdout, also a man, tied the exercise band around a water bottle and pulled on it.

“I was shocked,” Dargie said. “We’re not in here to play detective. It’s not a game of Clue.”

Dargie, who was among the 11 jurors who apparently voted not guilty, called the reenactment “disgusting.”

Judge William Sullivan ultimately declared a mistrial after jurors spent a week deliberating but were unable to reach a unanimous verdict.

Clancy pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility to murder charges in connection with the deaths of her three children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan.

Clancy acknowledges fatally strangling the children, but her defense claims that she was in a state of postpartum psychosis at the time.

After the killings, Clancy attempted suicide by cutting her wrists and jumping out of a window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down.

Her trial lasted more than a month, and she could be tried again following the mistrial.

Dargie, who served overseas in the military at the time of the killings in January 2023, told GMA that he had been unfamiliar with the case.

Speaking about the deliberations, Dargie said the holdout did not use evidence to back up his guilty vote.

“There wasn’t a single piece of evidence or witness testimony that he used to prove why he was thinking the way he was, which is why we ultimately sent in that note.”

Dargie was referring to a note sent by jurors after several days of deliberations in which they claimed a single holdout was not following the judge’s instructions.

After the note was sent, Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, tried to have the juror removed, but Sullivan declined the request.

Prosecutors have not yet announced if they will retry the case, but a follow-up hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 29.
