Dolly Parton’s Final Resting Place Will Be Beside Her Husband Carl Dean

Dolly Parton’s final resting place is set to be alongside the husband who shared nearly six decades of her life. The country music icon, who died at 80 on Aug. 25, 2026, will be interred at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville, where Carl Thomas Dean was laid to rest after his death in March 2025.

Parton and Dean married on May 30, 1966, after dating for two years. Although Parton spent much of her life in the public eye, Dean deliberately maintained a private life away from the entertainment industry. Their marriage lasted 58 years, until Dean died at 82.

A Private Farewell

Parton’s family said she wanted her funeral to be a small and private gathering. Her representatives confirmed that only her immediate family would attend the service, reflecting the singer’s longstanding preference for keeping the most personal parts of her life away from public attention.

Rather than sending flowers, Parton’s fans and friends were encouraged to honor her through donations to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, the children’s literacy organization she founded. Supporters were also invited to share memories and tributes online.

Her nephew Bryan Seaver, who announced her death, shared one of Parton’s wishes for her burial. He recalled that she wanted to rest comfortably after a lifetime of performing in elaborate, rhinestone-covered outfits.

A Mausoleum Marked by Their Story

Dean was interred in a mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park. A plaque at the site bears both his and Parton’s names, along with the date of their wedding and a symbol representing two intertwined wedding bands.

The memorial also includes a deeply personal detail: images of the couple’s childhood homes appear beneath their names. For Parton, that home was the modest one-bedroom log cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains where she grew up with her 11 siblings.

The contrast between that humble beginning and the extraordinary life she built became one of the defining themes of Parton’s story. She went from growing up in rural Tennessee with very little to becoming one of the world’s most recognizable entertainers, while maintaining a strong connection to her family and roots.

Reunited After Nearly 60 Years Together
