A 24-year-old man and 24-year-old woman were fatally struck by a subway train in Lower Manhattan early Sunday after chilling footage appeared to show the pair sitting calmly on the tracks as a train approached.

The tragedy happened near the Spring Street subway station shortly before 3:15 a.m., according to law-enforcement sources.

The man, who was from Sayreville, New Jersey, and the woman, who was from Dayton, New York, were reportedly on the tracks when a southbound No. 4 train approached.

Both were killed in the collision.

Video posted by The Daily Source reportedly shows the two young people sitting on the subway tracks and facing the approaching train.

The disturbing footage appears to capture the train moving toward them as they remain on the tracks.

Authorities have not indicated that either person was pushed onto the tracks or accidentally fell from the platform.

Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths, including whether alcohol may have been a factor, according to sources.

Police were withholding the victims’ names while notifying their families.

NYPD officers responded to the station following the collision. The station appeared to be closed as investigators worked at the scene.

The incident comes just days after another fatal subway accident involving an MTA worker.

On September 3, 41-year-old Moet McCullum, a construction flagger and mother of three, was fatally struck by a D train while working on the tracks at the 161st Street-Yankee Stadium station, according to the MTA.

Construction flaggers are responsible for warning train operators about active work zones.

The latest deaths have once again highlighted the extreme danger of entering New York City’s subway tracks, where even a brief moment on the rails can become fatal.

For now, investigators are continuing to piece together why the two 24-year-olds were on the tracks in the early morning hours and what happened immediately before the train arrived.
