New Jersey Family Tragedy Leaves Brother and Sister Dead After Shooting

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. — A quiet New Jersey neighborhood was shaken by a deadly shooting this week after a brother allegedly shot his sister outside their family home before turning the gun on himself.

Police were called to a residence on Bethel Avenue shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday following reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found Janet Camacho suffering from gunshot wounds on the front steps of the home.

Camacho was rushed to Cooper University Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Investigators identified her brother, 60-year-old Daniel Lopez, as the suspected shooter. Police quickly secured the surrounding area and established a perimeter around the residence as they worked to determine whether Lopez was still inside.

Police Search the Home

The incident prompted a significant police response, with officers taking precautions while searching the property.

Authorities reportedly evacuated nearby residents while investigators attempted to make contact with Lopez. Specialized equipment, including a police robotic dog, was also used during the operation.

Roughly 90 minutes after the initial emergency call, officers located Lopez inside the residence. He was found dead from what authorities described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The deaths are being investigated as a murder-suicide, according to authorities.

Motive Remains Unknown

Investigators have not publicly released a motive for the shooting, leaving unanswered questions about what may have happened inside or around the home before the violence began.

A neighbor who knew Lopez described him as a longtime family friend and said the news was difficult to comprehend. The neighbor recalled seeing him at family gatherings and said the tragedy came as a shock to people who knew the family.

Authorities have not indicated that anyone else was injured in the incident.

The shooting has left residents in the area confronting a tragedy that unfolded in the middle of an otherwise ordinary morning.
