“He shouldn’t have been up there,” Jamie Ulshoffer said of the man who fell on her from a tree

A woman is paralyzed from the waist down after a man fell from a tree and landed on top of her during a music festival.

On Friday, Sept. 18, Jamie Ulshoffer was at the Louder Than Life music festival at the Kentucky Exposition Center when a man suddenly fell from a nearby tree and landed directly on top of her, according to ABC affiliate WHAS and First Coast News.

“We were actually at the backside of the tent and there’s four trees in the back … We were on the back right corner,” her husband, Conor Ulshoffer, told WHAS at the hospital. “I turn around and see her on her back … Then everyone said some dude fell out of a tree.”

The Louisville Metro Police Department tells PEOPLE that their office learned that “a tree limb broke,” causing the man to fall. After he landed on “an adult female,” nearby officers rendered first aid until EMS could transport the victim to a local hospital.

After the incident occurred during Knocked Loose’s performance at the Impact Stage, Jamie was transported to UofL Hospital, where she remains in the intensive care unit.

In addition to telling WHAS that she has felt “miserable” since the incident — which left her with a severed spinal cord — Jamie said that the only thing she remembers is waking up in a hospital bed.

“He shouldn’t have been up there,” she said of the man who fell on her. “Definitely after it just rained, too. Stupid decision. You did this, but I’ll forgive.”

The Tennessee couple first met while line dancing and cherished music as an important part of their relationship.

“That’s how we met and everything,” Jamie said. “We love music, all types.”

According to a GoFundMe created by her niece, it is likely that Jamie will “never be able to walk again” after the freak accident occurred during the music festival.

“I’m not going to be able to play with the kids,” she told WHAS. “I can’t feel my feet. Can’t do anything that I used to.”

Even so, Jamie said that her husband has been by her side every step of the way.

“I’ve asked him over and over again if he’s going to leave me,” she quipped. “He says he’s not.”

When asked to address the incident, the PR firm for Louder Than Life told WHAS that they are “unable to comment on or provide additional details regarding specific medical incidents” due to patient privacy.

Louder Than Life did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
