Several students from York College of Pennsylvania were injured during a confrontation involving a large crowd outside their off-campus home in York, Pennsylvania, authorities said.

The incident unfolded in the early morning hours of September 12 after a large gathering connected to an illegal street event formed near the students’ neighborhood. Three juvenile girls have since been charged in connection with the reported assault.

Large Gathering Turns Into Confrontation
According to authorities, the incident began around 1:49 a.m. in the 300 block of West Jackson Street, an area near York College where many students live off campus.

Local reports said more than 100 people had gathered in the area. The situation escalated after residents reportedly asked people in the crowd to leave their property.

Several female college students were subsequently involved in a physical confrontation with members of the crowd. Witness accounts and video footage reviewed by news organizations showed some students being pulled from the porch and assaulted.

Police had previously explained that officers were dealing with another ongoing critical incident when the calls came in, leading them to request assistance from nearby agencies.

The confrontation has raised concerns among students and residents living in the neighborhood surrounding York College.

Local reporting described the area as a place where large gatherings involving people who are not connected to the college have increasingly caused disturbances. Students said the latest incident left them concerned about safety in their off-campus homes.
