After suffering 20 per cent burns the woman was admitted to Torrecardenas University Hospital in Almeria in the early hours of Friday morning.

She is believed to have had underlying health conditions.

It is believed up to six Brits could have lost their lives in the wildfires that have devastated Bedar and the neighbouring municipality of Los Gallardos.

Belgian nationals and a French woman are also thought to be among the 13 dead.

Spanish police told yesterday how they rescued two British tourists “with 40 per cent burns” after they got trapped in the Almeria wildfire while out hiking.

The Civil Guard officers found the pair during a search for survivors as night was falling on Thursday – the day 12 people were killed.

Pedro Barre, one of the cops who helped rescue them, said: “From the experience that builds up over time, there’s something that tells you, ‘go back and look again, try one more time’.”

“We heard a very faint sound, very far away but thought initially it was an echo.”

Shouting and using whistles, they tried to pinpoint where the sound was coming from.

The officers eventually located the man and woman who had been out hiking at the bottom of a ravine.

Rafael Zea, another of the Civil Guards who helped find the pair, told Spanish state TV: “The mere act of raising their voice in the state they were in was a titanic effort.”

Colleague Miguel Moyano added: “For us, it was unimaginable that there could still be life or people alive.”

At least 12 people were killed as the deadly fire ripped through Andalucia

Survivor Bob Layton, originally from Birmingham, said he had lost friends in the tragedy and slammed Spanish officials for claiming evacuation instructions were ignored

The semi-conscious Brits were said to have suffered serious 40 per cent burns.

They were taken to hospital following a two-hour rescue operation involving firefighters and other emergency services.

It comes as Brits caught up in the deadly blazes in southern Spain blasted authorities for giving “no warning”.

Spanish authorities have claimed many of the dead did not follow official advice.

Six cars tried to escape Bedar down a forest track, which was not an official evacuation route, authorities said.

Andalucia’s minister for health and emergencies Antonio Sanz said: “Unfortunately, the decision to take a different route than the evacuation route and seek their own exit through a dry riverbed was a real trap chosen by the people who ultimately died.”

Survivor Bob Layton, originally from Birmingham, said he had lost friends in the tragedy.

He said he was “sick to the back teeth of hearing that people didn’t follow the ‘designated escape route” and claimed there was no warning given about the inferno.

Bob said: “I was there. We lost our home, all our possessions and nearly our lives.

“If we’d left 60 seconds later than we did, we’d have joined those poor souls, our friends and our neighbours. There was no warning, full stop.”
