A Florida man has been sentenced for the brutal murder and attempted rape of his then-girlfriend’s mother in March 2022.
Dolores Padilla Marrero was killed at an assisted living facility in Orlando, Fla., on March 13, 2022, just hours after celebrating her 93rd birthday, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said at the time.
Javier Rosado Martinez, 58, has been sentenced for killing her and attempting to rape her, State Attorney Monique H. Worrell’s office said in a statement on Tuesday, July 14.
The investigation revealed Martinez, who was in a relationship with one of Marrero’s daughters, did not join the birthday celebration, which took place at a separate location, PEOPLE reported at the time. He went to the facility later that night and was let in by another resident.
Days later, the victim — grandmother to 11 and great-grandmother to 21 — was found deceased and naked on her bed with a blanket on her, authorities said at the time.
Prosecutors previously said Martinez had a “continual fixation” on elderly women, WESH reported in May ahead of his trial.
Prosecutors said that his internet history showed he had searched pornography involving older women with young men two days before the brutal murder.
The internet searches continued while Martinez was at Marrero’s place, prosecutors said, per WESH. He also watched those porn videos on his way home after the homicide.

“Ms. Padilla-Marrero was a woman who opened her home to someone she trusted — and he repaid that trust with unspeakable violence,” said State Attorney Worrell in her statement this week.
Martinez has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder and another five years for the attempted sexual battery, to be served consecutively.
