Young Girls Appear to Throw Firecracker into Baby’s Nursery 2 Weeks Before Due Date in Newly Released Security Video

Three juveniles have been arrested in connection with the alleged arson, which occurred last month

A California family shared an update after their nursery was set aflame two weeks before their newborn child was due.

The incident occurred in a Citrus Heights home on June 30, according to reporting by local outlets ABC 10, the Citrus Heights Sentinel and KTLA 5, which cited Citrus Heights law enforcement.

Online incident reports from the Citrus Heights Police Department viewed by PEOPLE confirm a suspected arson occurred at that home on June 30. Three juveniles were arrested in relation to the incident. They have not been identified by name.

Security footage, released over the weekend by KTVU Fox 2, documented the alleged arson attack.

The video showed two girls looking into the ground floor of a house through a window. At one point, one of the girls moved to the next window, holding an unidentifiable object, which seemed to briefly spark. She then appeared to throw the object into the house through the window before both teens ran away from the scene.

The homeowners’ relatives said in a GoFundMe that the object was a firecracker, which landed in the nursery and started a fire. The flames were contained, but the blaze destroyed the newborn’s clothes, scorched the nursery and left several other items covered in soot.

“The room was severely damaged, and everything they had prepared for their newborn was destroyed,” a description for the fundraiser read in part, adding that “everything” that had been put in the room “was no longer usable.”

In an update provided in the fundraiser on July 20, the family said the newborn, named Noah Cadena, was brought home to a nursery with “clean air, painted walls and new happy faces of Winnie the Pooh.”

According to police, the alleged arson stemmed from a dispute with a young girl who lives in the house, ABC 10 and the Citrus Heights Sentinel reported.

It’s not immediately clear if the arrested junveniles entered pleas or retained attorneys to speak on their behalf.
