A PIONEERING doctor and his wife have been killed in a horror plane crash.

The couple were flying shortly after the doctor had attended his dad’s funeral.

Doctor Ederson da Silva, 68, and his wife Roseli Amarilda Pechulo Silva, 62, died after their small plane plummeted to the ground in Palmas, northern Brazil.

Witnesses said the aircraft crashed to the ground shortly after take off.

They said the plane appeared to take off normally before suddenly dropping out of the sky.

A large crack was heard, police said.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash.

Roseli was found dead – but Doctor Ederson was pulled alive from the wreckage.

He was treated by paramedics but they were unable save him and he died at the scene.

Their pilot survived the crash and was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

He was identified as Hamilton Lopes da Conceição by police.

He remains in Palmas General Hospital, where his condition was described as unstable by cops.

The couple owned the São Lucas Hospital and lived together in Redenção.

Altevir Edson, 72, was feared dead after his small plane fell out of the sky over a dense forest near Belém, northern Brazil.

Altevir’s single-engine aircraft got into difficulty when a vulture flew into its propeller.

When the wreck of the plane was discovered, Altevir was nowhere to be seen.

The 72-year-old is thought to have wandered into the dense vegetation to look for help after the crash.

But he quickly became disorientated and lost.

The pilot was eventually found more than three miles from the crash site, after search and rescue teams deployed sniffer dogs and a drone to look for him.
