Officers conducted a welfare check at the Georgia residence around 12:36pm on Tuesday after one of Nateal’s children called 911, the Atlanta Police Department said.

Once cops arrived, they learned a male had barricaded himself in the home.

The man, later identified as 41-year-old Ciarre Campbell, was immediately detained after officers made their way inside.

Ciarre, the NFL star’s older brother, played football at Colorado State.

While inside, authorities discovered an unresponsive elderly woman, identified as Nateal, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The 911 audio released by police revealed Ciarre suffers from schizophrenia, is “mentally ill,” and was living with his mother.

One of Nateal’s children called the police for a welfare check, saying the family became concerned after Ciarre drove the mother’s car, something the man calling described as unusual and locked himself inside of the home.

“He doesn’t drive at all. But the neighbor caught it on camera that they drove off in her car … He [Ciarre] said she [Nateal] left but the camera footage that my neighbor has shows she never left,” the unidentified caller said.

Lieutenant Christopher Butler with the Atlanta Police Department said officials were still determining the exact details that led to the incident.

“The neighbors have been helpful. We’ve been able to locate some valuable information,” he said.

Atlanta police confirmed that the investigation “reveals the suspect involved in this incident was identified as Mr. Ciarre Campbell.”

Ciarre has since been charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a knife.

He was transported to the Fulton County Jail without incident, officials said.

An arrest warrant reviewed by ESPN revealed Nateal’s throat was slit.

“We are devastated to share that the Campbell Family has lost its matriarch, Mrs. Nateal Campbell,” the family said in a statement to ESPN.

“While the details of her passing are still being investigated, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with our father, her beloved Chuck, and in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

The Ravens issued a statement as well asking for the family’s privacy to be respected during this “heartbreaking loss.”

“We extend our deepest condolences and full support to Calais and his family during this difficult time,” the statement read.

Calais, the oldest active defensive player in the league, is entering his 19th season with the NFL.

He previously played with the Atlanta Falcons and was the second-round pick in 2008 when he was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals.

“At this time of unfathomable tragedy, our hearts are with Calais Campbell and his family. We hope they find strength and comfort in the love, prayers, and support that surround them now and in the days ahead,” the Cardinals said in a statement.

He also played for the Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Miami Hurricanes at the University of Miami.
