Man Accused of Fatally Shooting Ex-Wife and Her New Husband, Then Leaving Custody Papers on Her Body

Alejandro Estrada, 43, allegedly went to the grocery store where his ex-wife and her new husband worked and shot them on May 12
A Nevada man who was angry about paying child support to his ex-wife allegedly left custody papers on her body after fatally shooting her and her new husband inside a grocery store where they worked, according to court papers and grand jury testimony.
Alejandro Estrada, 43, of Las Vegas, is accused of killing his ex-wife, Amanda Frias Rosas, 40, and her new husband, Victor Frias Rosas, inside the Smith’s grocery store on May 12, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Amanda and Victor weren’t working that day but went to the store to buy a birthday cake for her son, whom she shared with Estrada and turned 12 on the day of the shooting, according to court records, KLAS, KSNV and the Las Vegas Review reported.

New details of what Estrada allegedly did before and after the shooting have emerged in court documents and testimony during a recent grand jury hearing.
Estrada allegedly told police he shot them both “approximately two to three times, two to four times,” Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department homicide detective Brandon Copley testified, according to court transcripts obtained by the outlets.
“As they were on the ground, he said he dropped his backpack to retrieve that red folder of documents, and then he took that and then he tucked that into Amanda’s arm,” Copley said, per the court records.

Estrada allegedly said he wanted police to “know why he did what he did,” Copley testified, the Las Vegas Review reported.
Estrada was arrested on May 12 after bystanders wrestled him to the ground in front of the store where he allegedly shot his ex-wife and her new husband, according to police.
In June, a grand jury indicted Estrada on a slew of charges, including two counts of murder with use of a deadly weapon; eight counts of discharge of a firearm from or within a structure or vehicle; and one count each of discharging a firearm at or into an occupied structure, vehicle, aircraft or watercraft; invasion of the home while in possession of a deadly weapon or firearm; and burglary while in possession of a firearm or deadly weapon, online court records show.
According to KLAS, prosecutors may seek the death penalty against him.
Estrada allegedly “made arrangements” a week or two before the alleged shootings, Copley testified, per the outlets. “He knew that murdering people was bad, but he had felt that over the last few years everything that Amanda had been trying to do with him in the form of obtaining financial support for their children kind of justified this action,” he alleged.
Estrada allegedly told Copley he killed Victor Frias Rosas also “because he was part of the problem, too,” per the detective’s testimony.
Estrada’s roommate, Noel Hernandez, testified that Estrada was allegedly angry at Amanda because of financial issues her request for child support was causing him.
“He was mad because at that period or point when he got child support, he was in the process of buying a condo and when the child support got to him, the loan officer had to stop everything and he lost a lot of money because of the down payment and everything, and he pretty much after that just hate her even more ’cause of that situation,” Hernandez testified, KLAS reported.
Hernandez continued, saying: “By the beginning of May, he told me that he knows that he’s going to get locked up because he didn’t pay his child support.”
Estrada allegedly told police the financial issues he was facing “all came to a head approximately a couple weeks prior to the shooting,” Copley testified, the Las Vegas Review reported. “He had received another notice that he would be going to court for his children, you know, as a result of Amanda seeking child support. It was at that time that he made the decision that she was going to be a constant nuisance in his life so he had to kill her.”
Estrada and his ex-wife shared their son who turned 12 on the day of the shooting, and a daughter, who turned 10 two days later, per KLAS.
He is being held without bail, according to FOX 5 Las Vegas.
His public defender did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
