New Bodycam Footage Shows Drunk Driver’s Emotional Reaction After Fatal Wedding-Night Crash

Newly released bodycam footage is shedding fresh light on the chaotic moments after a deadly 2023 crash that claimed the life of a newlywed bride in South Carolina.

Jamie Lee Komoroski, now 27, was arrested after her rented Toyota Camry crashed into a golf cart carrying newlyweds Samantha and Aric Hutchinson and two wedding guests as they left their reception on Folly Beach on April 28, 2023.

Samantha Hutchinson, 34, was killed in the crash, while her husband, Aric, 36, suffered serious injuries.

According to authorities, Komoroski was traveling approximately 65 mph in a 25 mph zone and had a blood-alcohol level roughly three times the legal limit.

“What did I do?”
Newly released footage from inside the Folly Beach Police Department shows Komoroski becoming emotional after her arrest.

Handcuffed and waiting at the station, she repeatedly asked officers whether she could call her father.

“I just wanna get this over with and go home,” she said while crying.

When an officer told her she could not make a phone call at that time, Komoroski questioned why she was being detained.

“Well, what did I do?” she asked.

She then claimed that officers had not proven she had done anything wrong.

“Nobody has any proof of anything that I did,” she said.

At one point, she appeared to notice a camera mounted on the wall and began addressing it directly while continuing to complain about being unable to contact her family.

The crash happened moments after the wedding
The collision occurred shortly after Samantha and Aric Hutchinson had celebrated their wedding with family and friends.

The couple were riding in a golf cart decorated with cans and other wedding decorations when Komoroski’s vehicle struck them.

Samantha died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Aric survived but suffered serious injuries and has since spoken publicly about the lasting impact of losing his wife on what was supposed to be the beginning of their life together.

A lengthy prison sentence followed
Komoroski ultimately pleaded guilty to felony DUI, two counts of DUI resulting in great bodily injury or death, and reckless homicide.

She was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The newly released footage has now brought renewed attention to the case, showing Komoroski’s reaction during the first hours after the crash and before the legal proceedings that eventually led to her lengthy sentence.

For the Hutchinson family, however, the consequences of that night extend far beyond a criminal conviction.

A wedding that was supposed to mark the beginning of a marriage instead became the final night of Samantha Hutchinson’s life.

And the newly released footage has given the public another look at the chaotic aftermath of a crash that forever changed two families.
