Authorities in upstate New York have launched a manhunt for a man they describe as “armed and dangerous” after a homicide that investigators believe may be connected to a house fire.

New York State Police are urging residents in the Greenville area to remain vigilant and check home surveillance footage as investigators search for 32-year-old Thomas David Ryan.

Police issued an alert Friday morning asking the public to help locate Ryan, who is wanted in connection with a homicide at a home in Greenville.

The investigation intensified after a house fire erupted Thursday evening on Greenville Turnpike.

Orange County firefighters were called to the property shortly after 7 p.m. as flames engulfed the home.

Investigators now believe the fire could be connected to the homicide, although authorities have not yet determined whether the killing occurred before or after the blaze.

Police have not released the identity of the victim.

On Friday, the New York State Police Troop F Bureau of Criminal Investigation appealed directly to residents for help.

Authorities asked people in the Greenville community to review any home-security footage recorded from approximately 6 p.m. Thursday through the overnight hours.

Investigators are particularly interested in footage that may show suspicious activity, vehicles or people moving through the area around the time of the incident.

Ryan is considered dangerous, and police are warning members of the public not to attempt to confront or approach him.

Authorities believe he may be traveling in a 2016 gray Toyota Prius with New York license plate HNH-7671.

Police described Ryan as approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing around 200 pounds.

He was reportedly last seen in the Greenville Turnpike area wearing black sweatpants and a black T-shirt.

“Anyone coming in contact with Ryan is advised to use caution,” state police warned.

Authorities are asking anyone who spots Ryan or believes they have information about his whereabouts to immediately contact 911 rather than approaching him.

The search remains active as investigators work to determine exactly what happened at the Greenville property and how the homicide may be linked to the devastating fire.

Residents are being urged to stay alert, check available surveillance footage and report anything suspicious directly to police.
