The victims were identified as Daniel Roberts, 46, and his son, Dylan Roberts, 20, who entered the water at Holden Beach on August 2. Family friend Justin Davis said Daniel began struggling in what he described as “uncontrollable rip currents,” prompting Dylan to immediately swim out in an attempt to save him. Tragically, both men were overcome by the powerful surf.

Emergency crews from Holden Beach Police, local fire departments, and Brunswick County EMS responded quickly after receiving reports of swimmers in distress.
