WARNING – DISTRESSING CONTENT: The parents and grandmother of Isaiah H., 8, face murder and torture charges after his body was found in a freezer in a bedroom closet in California.

In California, a boy identified as Isaiah H. was discovered deceased inside a freezer located in a bedroom closet, and new information regarding the case has come to light.

The 8-year-old’s mother and father stand accused of “killing and torturing” their son with assistance from the boy’s grandmother. Based on witness testimony, the three allegedly hid the boy’s body “in a cooler filled with ice” after wrapping him with Saran Wrap. The defendants made an appearance in a Compton court on Monday last week for the opening day of a preliminary hearing in the murder case.

Autopsy photographs allegedly presented in court during the hearing revealed bruises and scars covering the boy’s body, and police discovered chains and ropes in the apartment, reports Mirror US.

Destiny Harrison, the boy’s mother, Daniel Monzon, the father, and Ana Zarceno, the paternal grandmother, face charges of murder and torture.

Isaiah was allegedly subjected to abuse by the three “over a long period of time,” according to a criminal complaint.

Isaiah died from his injuries in the early hours of Oct. 24, 2025, and his body was discovered on Oct. 28, 2025.

The father’s best friend testified in court that he was summoned to the family’s residence last October and was informed that the boy was ill. He subsequently learned that the mother had struck the boy.

“Destiny had hit him, and hit him so hard that he fell and hit his head,” the witness testified. He informed the court the defendants “were scared” to call 911.

The grandmother subsequently informed him that the boy had passed away. When asked about Zarceno’s account of what occurred next, the witness stated, “Ana said that her and Destiny took the body inside and wrapped it up with Saran Wrap and she had to, like, go buy a freezer.”

The witness testified that he observed the boy’s body inside the freezer.

“I saw the body of Isaiah, in there, wrapped,” he testified. He further stated that he glimpsed Isaiah’s face through an opening that had been torn in a black plastic bag and mentioned the family had requested his assistance.

The paternal grandmother, Ana Carcamo-Zarceno, 46, was directly living in the home and is being prosecuted

“That was the favor they were going to ask me. Asking me if I would help them dispose of the body,” he testified.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the boy’s aunt informed the court he was mischievous and frequently consumed food during nighttime hours. She noted that he occasionally concealed snacks within his family’s couch cushions and the family expressed worries about his weight, which stood at roughly 200 pounds.

The family also allegedly starved him.

When the boy’s deceased body was discovered, he weighed merely 65 pounds.

When Dr. Claudia Wong, a UCLA professor of pediatrics and expert on child abuse, viewed photographs of him prior to the weight loss, she remarked, “I can’t recognize him in this picture.”

According to witnesses, Isaiah was seldom observed in public during the timeframe when he shed weight and was kept restrained to furniture. If found guilty, the defendants each face sentences ranging from 32 years to life in state prison.
