Viral Video Shows Woman Losing Control on California’s Famous Natural Waterslide, Renewing Safety Concerns

A dramatic video circulating online has drawn renewed attention to one of Southern California’s most well-known outdoor destinations after a woman lost control while sliding down a natural rock formation and collided with the surrounding canyon walls.

The incident reportedly occurred at the Santa Paula Punch Bowls in Ventura County, a popular swimming and hiking destination inside Los Padres National Forest that has gained widespread attention on social media for its scenic pools, cliff jumps and naturally formed waterslide.

The footage shows the woman descending the smooth granite chute before veering off course and striking the rocky wall several times prior to coming to rest in the pool below. Onlookers nearby watched the incident unfold as the video quickly spread across social media.

Officials have not released information about the woman’s condition.

While the Punch Bowls are known for their striking scenery, authorities have repeatedly warned that the location presents significant safety risks. Wet granite surfaces can become extremely slippery, while fast-moving water, submerged rocks and steep canyon walls increase the risk of serious injuries.

Emergency responders have also noted that the remote location can make rescue efforts especially challenging. In some past incidents, injured visitors have required helicopter evacuations because of the difficult terrain.

The latest video comes only weeks after another fatal accident was reported near the same area, adding to a growing list of incidents that have prompted officials to urge visitors to use caution.

Authorities continue to remind hikers and swimmers that activities often featured in viral social media videos—such as cliff jumping or using the natural rock slide—can carry significant risks, even for experienced outdoor enthusiasts.

As the destination continues to attract thousands of visitors each year, safety officials hope the latest incident serves as a reminder that even the most picturesque locations can become dangerous when conditions are unpredictable.
