CEDARTOWN, Georgia — A Georgia family is demanding answers after their beloved baby donkey, HeeHaw, was shot and killed by a police officer during a late-night search for a missing child.

HeeHaw’s owner, Hannah Israel, says the donkey was not aggressive and had been raised as part of the family after being bottle-fed from a very young age.

The incident happened around 12:45 a.m. Sunday in Cedartown, Georgia, when officers were searching an area near the family’s pasture. According to police, an officer encountered HeeHaw during the search and ultimately shot the animal.

HeeHaw Was Raised Like a Family Pet

Israel said HeeHaw had been bottle-raised and was accustomed to being around people.

The young donkey had also participated in petting zoos, making him familiar with strangers and visitors.
