A young pilot’s quick thinking and flying skills turned a terrifying moment into a remarkable survival story.

Faith Tenkley, 23, was flying a small twin-engine plane near Boca Raton, Florida, on Saturday when she experienced a serious mechanical failure. The aircraft’s landing gear stopped working, forcing her to make a split-second decision.

Instead of attempting a risky runway landing, Tenkley chose to bring the plane down in the Atlantic Ocean — carefully avoiding buildings, beach visitors, and people in the water.
