Viral Golden Retriever Tucker Budzyn Dies at 8 After Sudden Cancer Complications

Tucker Budzyn, the beloved golden retriever who became an internet sensation and brought joy to millions of people, has died at age 8 following sudden complications from cancer.

His owner, Courtney Budzyn, shared the heartbreaking news on Sept. 5, just days after revealing that Tucker had been diagnosed with lymphoma.

Tucker’s Final Days

Tucker was initially responding well to cancer treatment and had even appeared to be heading toward remission.

But his condition suddenly changed.

Courtney later explained that Tucker had lymphoma affecting his intestine. As the treatment began working, an infection developed in the area affected by the cancer. His health deteriorated rapidly.

Courtney rushed him to the veterinarian, where he received antibiotics and fluids. Despite their efforts, his condition continued to worsen, and his temperature kept rising.

Eventually, the family had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go.

Tucker passed away on Sept. 2.

A Final Few Weeks Filled With Happiness

Although Tucker’s final days came far sooner than his family expected, Courtney said he had an especially happy few weeks before his condition suddenly declined.

He went to the park, swam in the pool, played with his son Todd and enjoyed rolling around in the grass.

He also got plenty of his favorite food while taking his medication.

For Courtney, those memories offered some comfort during an incredibly painful time.

The Golden Retriever Who Became an Internet Star

Courtney adopted Tucker in 2018, when he was just 8 weeks old.

She began documenting his life online, and his expressive face and playful personality quickly attracted a huge audience.

Tucker eventually became one of the internet’s best-known dogs, with millions of followers across TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook.

His videos often showed the simple pleasures of being a dog — playing, eating, exploring and spending time with his family.

For countless followers, Tucker became a familiar and comforting presence on their screens.

“He Was Part of My Soul”

Announcing Tucker’s passing, Courtney struggled to put her grief into words.

She described him as a part of herself and said that losing him felt like losing a part of her own body.

She also told followers that Tucker had profoundly changed her life.

His influence went far beyond the videos and photographs shared online. He had been there through difficult moments that Courtney had rarely shown to the public, making their bond deeply personal.

She thanked Tucker’s enormous community of fans, acknowledging that many people around the world were grieving alongside her.

His Story Will Continue

Even as Courtney mourns Tucker, she has said she intends to keep moving forward and honor the legacy he left behind.

An upcoming children’s picture book, Of All the Sniffs I Love the Most, will also preserve part of Tucker’s story for his fans and future generations.

Tucker may have started as one family’s beloved puppy, but over the years he became something much bigger.

He brought laughter, comfort and companionship to millions of people who never had the chance to meet him.

For Courtney and those who followed Tucker throughout his life, he will be remembered not simply as an internet-famous dog, but as a cherished companion whose joyful personality touched people far beyond his own home.
