Armed Citizen and Off-Duty State Trooper Credited With Helping Stop Idaho In-N-Out Shooting

An armed citizen and an off-duty state trooper are being credited with helping bring an end to a deadly shooting at an In-N-Out restaurant in Idaho on Saturday, an incident that left two people dead and seven others injured.
The shooting took place at an In-N-Out location in Twin Falls, where authorities said a 24-year-old gunman opened fire with an AR-style rifle. The violence reportedly began inside the restaurant before continuing into the parking lot, creating chaos as customers and employees attempted to escape.
According to police, an armed civilian and an off-duty state trooper both confronted the shooter and opened fire. Witnesses described the scene as extremely chaotic, with multiple people attempting to respond as the gunman moved through the area.

Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said the actions of the two individuals may have helped prevent further casualties by forcing the suspect away from the scene. Authorities praised both the off-duty officer and the civilian for their actions during the emergency.
The gunman is believed to have died from a self-inflicted injury, according to police. Authorities have not yet publicly identified the deceased suspect or announced a possible motive for the attack.
Witness Lane Koehn, who was nearby at the time, said he saw a person carrying an AR-style rifle emerge from the restaurant’s drive-thru area before another individual began firing in his direction. Koehn also reported seeing an injured In-N-Out employee being assisted across the parking lot.
Koehn remained at the scene and, along with others, stayed with the injured employee until emergency medical personnel arrived. At least two of the wounded victims were reportedly in critical condition at local hospitals.

The shooting has deeply affected the local community and the employees of the restaurant. In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder expressed condolences to the victims and their families, saying the company was grieving the loss of one of its employees.
The FBI is assisting local authorities with the investigation, while police continue working to establish the full sequence of events and determine what led to the shooting.
As investigators piece together what happened, authorities are also reviewing the actions of those who intervened during the attack. Police have said their response may have helped create an opportunity for customers and employees to escape and potentially prevented additional casualties.
