Couple arrested after child found living in ‘repulsive’ West Virginia home

A West Virginia couple has been arrested after authorities say they kept a child and three dogs inside a home filled with animal feces, human vomit, trash and insects.

Dakota McIe, 23, and Ciarra Lacey, 22, are facing charges of child neglect and animal abuse after a concerned witness provided police with video showing the conditions inside the residence on Aug. 5.

According to investigators, the home was littered with animal waste, piles of garbage and human vomit, including around the area where the child slept.

The witness reportedly described large swarms of flies covering the kitchen, with rotting food and garbage creating such a foul odor that they became nauseated.

The home also reportedly had no air conditioning, while part of the bathroom was unusable.

Authorities said they found three dogs locked inside cages that smelled strongly of urine and had no visible food or water. Animal control was called to remove the animals.

Child Protective Services was also contacted, and the child — whose age and gender were not released — was placed in the custody of a grandparent.

Lacey remains jailed on a $30,000 cash-only bond, while McIe was released Aug. 11 after posting a $5,000 bond.

The investigation remains ongoing.
