Alexis Rowan, 27, was slashed in neck and punched after asking a man for directions on a hike

Footage from a ring doorbell camera captured the horror attack

The hiker screamed and cried for help after being slashed and repeatedly punched on the Havasupai Reservation, Arizona.

Alexis was on mile eight of a 10 mile hike last Wednesday when she briefly separated from her friend.

She stopped to ask Taylor Nardo Paya, 29, for directions.

Alexis told ABC7: “I didn’t think anything of it, it was the first person that I’ve seen in the village. And I said, ‘hey, excuse me, is that the gift shop?’”

She said she had felt uneasy during the exchange, but kept walking.

Then Alexis was suddenly attacked from behind.

Alexis told herself: ‘I can’t die like this, this is not the way’

She said: “I kept walking, I went to go in and that’s when he just came up from behind.

“And as soon as I felt my neck, I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to die’.”

But Alexis was determined to survive.

The mother said: “I was like, ‘Oh my God, my neck. I can’t die like this, this is not the way’.

“And I was like, ‘I have my kids to go home to’.”

Miraculously, a woman heard Alexis’ cries for help and brought her into her home to safety.

Her alleged attacker Paya can be seen running off in the video footage.

He was tracked down by police and arrested the next day after cops tracked Alexis’ stolen phone.

The alleged attacker faces a charge of assault with deadly weapons, Fox10 reported.

Alexis needed 10 stitches in her neck and three on her left hand.

Her mother Tricia Rowan thanked the woman who let her the injured hiker into her home.

She said: “I’m just so grateful for the woman that opened the door that heard her screams, it’s something you can never unhear.”

Tricia added: “And she’s a fighter. She fought to make sure she’s coming home to her babies, and she’s my baby. So I’m so glad she made it.”
