TWO children from the same family have been killed and five others injured in a horror crash as they headed home from school.

Sarah El Hawli, seven, died at the scene as Ossama El Hawli, 11, was rushed to hospital alongside the other children before his death was confirmed overnight.

A 34-year-old female driver and the seven children were inside the car when it flipped and “inexplicably rolled” near Bacchus Marsh, Victoria.

Emergency services were called to the Nerowie and Parwan-Exford road intersection just before 4.30pm on Tuesday.

Medics managed to pull everyone from the wreckage but confirmed Sarah had died.

Ossama was airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a critical condition, before he passed away hours later.

It is unclear what the relationship of the victims is, with some reports saying they were siblings and others saying cousins.

Five of the other children were hospitalised with non-life-threatening upper-body injuries, including a toddler, three primary-aged children and a teenager.

All remain in a stable condition.

The driver was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital for observation but was discharged on Wednesday afternoon.

Australia’s Islamic community has been hit hard by the tragic passing of the two children in the horrific crash.

The Australian Islamic Centre (AIC) extended their support to the devastated families for funeral and burial arrangements, calling the two children “beloved members of our community”.

They said in a statement: “It is with profound sadness that the Australian Islamic Centre mourns the passing of Ossama El Hawli and Sarah El Hawli.

“Their loss has deeply affected our entire AIC community. Our hearts are with their parents, family, and loved ones as they face an unimaginable loss.”

Police say the scene was ‘quite hectic with ‘people everywhere’

Detective Sergeant Tony Gentile said: “From my understanding, the scene was quite hectic with family coming as well and there were people everywhere.

“Witnesses who witnessed it, they stopped and rendered assistance.

“Obviously with seven children they were distressed and they were cared for by paramedics, members of the public and police.”

A fleet of ambulance crews attended the scene, including two helicopter crews, two intensive care paramedic crews and seven Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedic crews.
