A 17-year-old New York City student was stabbed in front of his mother while walking toward his high school in the Bronx on Monday, September 14, authorities said.

The disturbing incident occurred on the same day that two other students were reportedly found carrying firearms at separate schools in New York City, raising fresh concerns about safety around local educational institutions.

17-Year-Old Student Attacked Near Bronx High School
The 17-year-old boy and his mother were walking toward the William H. Taft High School Educational Campus near East 172nd Street and Sheridan Avenue in the Mount Eden neighborhood at approximately 9:30 a.m.

According to police and law enforcement sources, two suspects approached and ambushed the teenager. One suspect allegedly struck him, while the other stabbed him in the buttocks.

The teenager had reportedly been on his way to register for classes. Instead, he was taken to Harlem Hospital for medical treatment, where he was listed in stable condition.

The suspects remained at large following the attack, according to authorities.

The incident occurred in broad daylight and in front of the teenager’s mother, adding to the distress surrounding the assault. Police continued investigating the circumstances of the attack and searching for the individuals involved.

Student Arrested With Loaded Gun at Staten Island School
Less than an hour after the Bronx stabbing, another incident involving a student and a firearm was reported at Curtis High School on Staten Island.

Authorities said 18-year-old Samuel Owusu was involved in a fight with another student at the school on Hamilton Avenue in the St. George neighborhood at around 10:20 a.m.

School safety officers reportedly intervened and separated the students. During the response, police discovered a firearm in Owusu’s backpack.

According to authorities, the weapon was loaded, with bullets in the cartridge. Police said Owusu did not pull out the gun during the altercation.

He was arrested and faced multiple weapons-possession charges, as well as a charge related to unlawful cannabis possession.

The circumstances surrounding how the firearm entered the school and whether it was connected to the fight remained part of the investigation.

Another Teen Detained With Gun in Queens
Later that afternoon, a third school-related firearm incident was reported in Queens.

A 17-year-old student was passing through a security scanner at the Queens School for Career Development on Linden Boulevard near 143rd Street in South Jamaica when the device reportedly detected a gun inside his backpack.

Police took the student into custody. However, authorities had not confirmed whether the weapon was loaded, and charges had not yet been filed as of Monday evening.

The incident added to a troubling day involving violence and weapons at schools across the city.

Investigation Into School Safety Incidents Continues
The three incidents occurred at different locations and were not immediately reported to be connected.

In the Bronx, investigators were searching for two suspects accused of attacking the 17-year-old student. Meanwhile, authorities were handling separate investigations involving firearms discovered at schools on Staten Island and in Queens.

The incidents underscore the challenges faced by students, parents, school staff, and law enforcement in maintaining safety in and around New York City schools.

Authorities had not released additional details about the motive behind the Bronx stabbing or identified the suspects involved in that attack.
