William suffered an ankle injury after taking part for the first time in the race.

One Spanish participant was gored in the face with medics describing the 30-year-old’s condition as “serious”.

Doctors said they were considering moving the participant into intensive care.

Brit William was less seriously injured, and spoke to reporters as he hobbled out of the Navarra University Hospital.

He said he “ran until the bull trampled” him, but has not been put off returning to the city.

William said: “I’d seen the festival on social media and it looked like good fun.

“It’s my first visit to Pamplona. I might come back another year but only for the party.”

The festival kicked off on Monday, when thousands of revellers filled the streets dressed in white and red.

William and ten others were taken to hospital in this year’s fifth run.

The festival runs until July 14, with the dangerous tradition of attempting to out-run bulls dating back over 400 years.

Sixteen people have been killed in the races, with many injured each year.

Tourists travelling from the UK and around the world are often among the casualties.

The latest death was in 2009, when Daniel Jimeno, 27, was fatally gored in the neck by a bull called Capuchino.

At least five people were injured on the first full day of the festival, just hours after a reveller died in a bar.

It comes just hours after a man – believed to be around 70 years old – collapsed in a bar on the bull-running track last night.

Emergency services raced to the scene on Estafeta Street after reports of a man going into cardiac arrest at 10:30pm.

Estafeta Street forms part of the bull running course but the man’s death is believed to have been due to natural causes.
