Maine Mom Visiting Son in Calif. Found Bludgeoned to Death With Hammer in His Home

Angela Caprioli, 61, was viciously beaten last week while visiting her son
A California man is under arrest after his mother was brutally killed last week.
Angela Caprioli, 61, was found dead in a grisly scene at her son’s Laguna Beach, Calif. home on July 20, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
Caprioli’s son, 36-year-old Safford James Wolfson, has since been arrested in connection with the killing.
According to the statement, officers responded to the residence after Wolfson’s grandmother came upon a gruesome scene with the furniture in disarray and blood everywhere.
Prosecutors said Wolfson was found on the floor covered in blood and had self-inflicted injuries to his neck; Caprioli was located in the bedroom and had suffered severe blunt force trauma to her head and face, per police.
Neighbors described Wolfson to CBS Los Angeles as “mysterious” and aloof, and said he had been living at the residence for about six months.
He often had caregivers come to the house, they said, adding that Caprioli had “been around” in the days leading up to the alleged murder and had come to drop off a television, among other items.

Caprioli was visiting from Maine at the time of her killing, prosecutors said.
Wolfson has been charged with one count of murder with enhancement of personally using a deadly weapon, a hammer, according to the statement.
He appeared in court remotely from the ICU on Monday, July 27, Mercury News reported; he was accompanied by his attorney and has not entered a plea. His next scheduled court appearance is in October.
