Firefighter Accused in Wife’s Death Appears in Los Angeles Court

A Glendale firefighter accused in the death of his wife appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom Wednesday, remaining silent as a judge scheduled the next major hearing in the case.

Andrew Jimenez, 45, appeared at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center wearing jail-issued clothing and restraints. He remained quiet throughout the brief hearing, looking straight ahead with a serious expression.

The court proceeding lasted only a few minutes. Prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed to schedule a preliminary hearing for October 21, 2026, when witnesses are expected to testify and evidence may begin to be presented.

Jimenez has previously pleaded not guilty to one count of murder and remains in custody without bail.

The case stems from the January 21 death of his wife, 46-year-old Mayra Jimenez, a schoolteacher who was found inside the couple’s North Hollywood home with severe injuries. Prosecutors allege that Andrew Jimenez attacked her with an ax during a confrontation.

Authorities said Jimenez was arrested the same day after he reportedly approached Los Angeles police officers and asked them to conduct a welfare check at the residence. When officers arrived, they discovered Mayra’s body, and Jimenez was taken into custody.

Earlier in the case, a former attorney for Jimenez told The Post that his client had allegedly discovered writings in his wife’s diary that suggested she had been unfaithful shortly before her death. The attorney later withdrew from the case.

Those claims have not been proven in court, and prosecutors have not publicly identified a motive as part of the criminal charges.

Jimenez joined the Glendale Fire Department as a paramedic in 2008 and was promoted to firefighter in 2024

He is expected to remain in custody as the legal proceedings continue. If convicted, he could face a sentence of 26 years to life in state prison.

The case remains ongoing, and the allegations against Jimenez have not been proven in court.
