A Milwaukee mother is pleading for an end to youth gun violence after her 16-year-old son was fatally shot just days after celebrating his birthday.

Camron Bowen was shot Saturday afternoon, September 19, near South Layton Boulevard and West Greenfield Avenue on Milwaukee’s south side. Emergency crews responded shortly before 5 p.m. and rushed the teenager to a hospital, but he did not survive his injuries.

Only one week earlier, his family had been thinking about his birthday and the future ahead of him.

Camron had turned 16 on September 16.

Three days later, his mother received the phone call that changed everything.

For Jennifer Cassidy, the loss was not simply the death of her teenage son. She described Camron as her best friend, her source of strength and a young man who still had plans for what his life could become.
