Rising Golf Star Jessica Bang Dead at 18 After Suffering Brain Hemorrhage in Thailand

Australian golf prodigy Jessica Bang has died at just 18 after suffering a brain hemorrhage while preparing for a qualifying tournament in Bangkok, according to the WPGA Tour of Australasia.

Bang collapsed Aug. 1 ahead of the KLPGA Tour’s International Qualifying Tournament and was rushed to Synphat Ramintra Hospital, where she underwent emergency brain surgery, according to her cousins.

She was later placed on life support as her family desperately hoped to bring her back to Australia.

Bang died at 7:20 a.m. local time Thursday, according to an update posted by her cousins on a fundraising page.

“We are truly heartbroken by this news,” her family wrote. “However, we would like to continue to remember Jessica and celebrate her achievements, passion, and dedication to golf.”

The family said Bang’s cheerful personality and sense of humor would remain treasured memories.

Funds raised through the campaign — nearly 36,000 Australian dollars at the time of the latest update — will be given to Bang’s parents to help cover her medical expenses.

The WPGA Tour of Australasia also paid tribute to the young golfer.

“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the WPGA Tour of Australasia and the broader Australian golf community are with Jessica’s family, friends and all those who knew and loved her at this incredibly difficult time,” the organization said.

Bang had been viewed as a promising young talent and qualified earlier this year to begin her rookie season with the WPGA/KLPGA, according to her cousins.

She reportedly began her professional career in 2025 and made an early impression in Australian golf.

In February, Bang won the Ford Women’s NSW Regional Qualifying tournament at Moss Vale — remarkably, in just her fifth career start.

Her sudden death has left Australia’s golf community mourning a young player whose professional career was only beginning.
