Leslie Caoili’s life changed in a matter of weeks after what began as a routine heart checkup turned into a fight for survival.

The 41-year-old mother of two from Spring Valley, California, went to the doctor in May for a regular heart evaluation. During the visit, doctors discovered she had a life-threatening Type A aortic dissection — a serious tear in the body’s main artery connected to the heart.

Doctors determined she needed emergency surgery immediately.

“She probably had only hours left to live,” her husband, Amery Lee Caoili, said.

The complex operation was successful, but Leslie later faced devastating complications. Her circulation to her hands and feet was severely affected, and doctors eventually had to amputate both arms below the forearms and both legs.

Before the medical crisis, Leslie was known as a strong and active athlete who competed in strength competitions across San Diego. She was also a devoted mother who loved spending time with her husband, two daughters, and their family dog.

Despite losing her limbs, Leslie has remained determined throughout her recovery.

Her family says her biggest wish is simple: to return home and rebuild a normal life with the people she loves. Her husband is now working to make their home accessible and prepare for her transition back into everyday life.

“Her goal is to come home to her family and keep living life as fully as possible,” her husband shared.

Friends and supporters have rallied around Leslie as she begins a new chapter — one filled with challenges, but also hope, courage, and the support of the people who love her most.
