Staff Sgt. Angel Rampersad Remembered as a Beloved Daughter, Soldier and Friend

Staff Sgt. Angel Sarah Rampersad is being remembered not simply as a soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice, but as a daughter, sister, friend and young woman whose life touched countless people.

Rampersad, a New York native, was among the U.S. service members killed in the attack in Jordan. News of her death devastated her family and the Queens community, where she had grown up and remained deeply connected.

At her funeral, loved ones gathered to remember the person behind the uniform — a woman described by those closest to her as warm, devoted and determined to make her life meaningful.

Her family said Angel had dreamed of serving in the military from a young age. She wanted to see the world, challenge herself and dedicate her life to helping others.

That sense of purpose became one of the defining parts of her life.

Her sister Laura Tamby remembered Angel as someone who wanted her life to stand for something. She wasn’t simply pursuing a career, her family said — she wanted to serve others.

That dream ultimately took her far from home.

But even as she served overseas, Angel remained connected to the people and community she loved. Those who knew her remembered her love of the ocean, sunsets and music. She had also played drums for her church, revealing a side of her life that had little to do with military service.

At her funeral in Queens, family members and friends gathered alongside fellow service members and community members to say goodbye.

People lined the streets as her funeral procession passed, many holding American flags and pausing to honor the young soldier.

Her mother, Carol Acevedo, described her daughter as a “real hero” and urged people to cherish the people they love while they still have the chance.

Those words captured the pain behind the ceremony.

For Angel’s family, there will never be another ordinary family gathering, another conversation, or another moment shared with the daughter and sister they lost.

Instead, they will carry her memory forward.

Her sacrifice has also been formally recorded in the Congressional Record, ensuring that her name will remain part of the official history of the United States.

But for the people who loved Angel, she was never just a name in a military record.

She was a daughter who was loved deeply.

A sister who was treasured.

A friend who will never be forgotten.

And a soldier who believed her life could be used to serve something greater than herself.

Staff Sgt. Angel Sarah Rampersad was 26 years old. Her life was tragically short, but the legacy she leaves behind is anything but small.
