A quiet school day near Bangkok turned into one of Thailand’s most devastating tragedies when a 14-year-old student carried out a deadly shooting that left nine people dead, including his own grandparents, teachers, school staff and students.

The attack unfolded at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Nonthaburi Province on August 7, sending students running for safety and leaving families waiting outside the gates for news about their loved ones.

Authorities said the teenager first killed his grandparents at their home before going to the school, where he opened fire and later died by suicide. The weapon used in the attack belonged to his grandfather.
